WHY DO LEGAL PROOFREADING PRICES VARY?

You will see a huge variation in prices when looking for proofreading services. You will see prices for one simple proofread and prices for unlimited revisions. You will see companies who use freelancers and so must make their slice of profit on top of the freelancers’ fees.

Whatever your particular needs, it is important that you are able to establish from the outset exactly what your money will get you.

Any legal proofreading company should be able to answer the following questions:

  • Do they specialise in legal proofreading? Law is a specialist area and requires proofreaders with the requisite legal knowledge and experience.
  • Who will be proofreading your work? What are their professional legal qualifications and their proofreading/editing qualifications?
  • Will the price include one proofread only or a series of proofreads? Are second revisions included in the price? If so, will second revisions be proofread by the same proofreader?
  • Will the proofreader make essential changes only or will the proofreader work with you to clarify any unclear points? Will the proofreader make any suggestions for improvement?
  • If English is not my first language, will the proofreader be able to help me express myself clearly?
  • How will your work be marked? Will Track Changes be used? Will it be returned in both mark-up and clean versions?
  • When will the work be returned? What if I have further revisions but still need to meet a deadline?
  • What happens if I am not happy with the revisions made?

I offer a tailored and personalised service so that you can be assured that I will be the person proofreading your documents and providing you with feedback.

ARE ALL DOCUMENTS THE SAME PRICE?

I proofread and edit a huge variety of legal documents, from essays to dissertations, from simple agreements to complex translations of statutes. Every document is different and requires a different level of work. You may need a simple proofread or you may need a heavier level of editing with several revisions. Perhaps you are an international student needing particular assistance with language. Size of the document will also be relevant; larger documents can often attract lower rates per 1,000 words. Your required turnaround may also impact the quoted price.

HOW I RETURN PROOFREAD DOCUMENTS

I work in Word Track Change. Unless you require otherwise, you will receive two versions of your proofread document(s) – a ‘with changes’ version (showing all of the amendments in red) and a ‘clean’ version (with all of those changes accepted). Don’t worry if you aren’t familiar with Track Change; I will send you full instructions with the return of your proofread work.

The proofread document(s) will be returned to you by email within the agreed turnaround period. You will also receive an invoice, to be paid by PayPal or BACS.
